Kevin De Bruyne ruled out of Manchester City clash against Arsenal as absence confirmed by Roberto Martinez

Kevin De Bruyne will miss Manchester City’s clash with Arsenal this Saturday, according to Belgium manager Roberto Martinez — who has left the Belgian out of his latest international squad.

De Bruyne was a 79th-minute substitute in City’s opening day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, but was left out of the match-day squad altogether for their 5-0 win over Norwich on Saturday.

Ahead of that match, City manager Pep Guardiola revealed the 29-year-old had missed training on Friday due to an ankle problem.

Speaking on Thursday, Martinez confirmed De Bruyne’s ankle injury would prevent him from action for the foreseeable future.

“Kevin is not available. As you know he had some minutes against Tottenham,” said the former Wigan Athletic manager.

“But after that game he still felt some pain (in his ankle). He’s taking a different route now. He’s not gonna be playing this weekend. The idea is to see how his injury progresses.”

“Kevin is working really hard behind the scenes to get fully fit and to be ready for a demanding season. At the moment he’s not 100 percent fit.”

Belgium will play Estonia, the Czech Republic and Belarus in their World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign during the international break.
