What Germany needs to qualify for the World Cup last 16: All possible outcomes

After Spain and Germany played a draw in their match at the Al Bayt Stadium, things are getting interesting in World Cup group E.

Germany, the joint-second most successful team in FIFA World Cup history with four tournament wins, failed to convert most of their chances against Japan. They were the more dominant team throughout the game, and Hansi Flick’s men had a whopping 21 shots at goal but scored only one goal.

World Cup news:

In their second game against Spain, the Germans were attacking tonight, but the Spanish players could control the game and hold the majority of the ball possession. Eventually, it looked like both teams were happy with the draw.

Possible outcomes for the Germans

The situation at the table is that Spain has the top with four points, followed by Japan and Costa Rica with three points, and Germany is at the bottom, with just one point from two games.

The qualification is yet to be determined in the last matchups between Spain and Japan and Costa Rica against Germany.

A loss or a draw against Costa Rica will end the four-time World Champions’ hopes of winning another title. It is appropriate to note that Germany was knocked out of the 2018 edition without progressing into the knockout stage.

A win against Costa Rica will give them more probability of qualifying, but it will depend on the outcome of the other match between Spain and Japan. Only Spain’s victory will work for the germans, but they will also need a better goal difference from their Asian group opponent.
