Jesse Lingard sends message to Manchester United fans after Old Traffored return

Jesse Lingard has sent a heartfelt message to Manchester United fans after supporters gave the former Red a warm welcome back to Old Trafford during the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Lingard returned to his former side for the first time since his departure in the summer following the expiry of his contract. The 30-year-old has now become an integral part of Steve Cooper’s side, starting 11 of the 16 Premier League matches that Forest have played this term.

Thankfully for United supporters, Lingard was unable to find the back of the net upon his return to Manchester. Goals from Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Fred ensured Erik ten Hag’s side took all three points in their first Premier League match since the World Cup break.

It was a subdued performance from the former United man and Lingard eventually ended up limping off before the hour mark. As he was helped off the pitch by the physios, the home fans inside Old Trafford rose in unison and applauded their old player in a classy tribute to the man who had joined the club as a seven-year-old.

Lingard was clearly touched by the gesture from the crowd as he made his way back to the dugout. Taking to social media after the game, the winger revealed how grateful he was for the supporters’ actions despite ending up on the losing side.

He said: “Disappointing result to end the year. Time to focus on the next game. Just want to say thank you for the warm reception, Old Trafford will always have a special place in my heart and @officialnffc fans unbelievable support once again thank you.”
