Fans blast PSG star Neymar after he was sent off for ‘blatant dive’ against Strasbourg on Wednesday

Neymar saw his return to club football cut short after he was shown a second yellow card in as many minutes for a dive in the penalty box as PSG beat Strasbourg 2-1 on Wednesday night.

The Brazilian forward was one of several World Cup stars to start the game for the Ligue 1 leaders, but unlike Kylian Mbappe – who sealed the points with a late penalty – he failed to shine for his club.

Les Parisiens were without Lionel Messi who is still celebrating his World Cup victory in Argentina and were almost punished for Neymar’s theatrics but an added time spot-kick allowed Mbappe to seal all three points on the night.

With PSG seeking a late winner after Marquinhos had cancelled out his own header with an own goal, Neymar burst clear in the box before throwing himself to the floor in an attempt to buy a penalty for his side, for which he was shown a second yellow.

And football fans have been quick to slam the Brazilian’s dive, with some suggesting that the 30-year-old’s undeniable quality will be overshadowed by his less impressive antics.

One fan wrote: ‘Unfortunately for all the good Neymar does he will always let himself down with incidences like this. He is looking at the ref and can’t believe it’s not a penalty despite a blatant dive.’

A second added: ‘Omg Neymar his dive is so lame – good he got sent off for it. Ugh he’s so good but does these things.’

Another fan wrote: ‘Neymar gets a 2nd yellow for an embarrassing dive and gets himself sent off… Joker.’

A fourth said: ‘Ridiculous antic from Neymar Jr to buy a penalty – that’s a clear dive.’

And a fifth stated: ‘If you’re going to dive, at least do it properly and DON’T get sent off for it. Stupidity from Neymar.’

Others were quick to poke fun at the Brazilian’s antics, with one viewer claiming: ‘Bro that was a dive. The only thing Neymar got slapped by was a ghost.’

And another made light of the situation by hinting at a potential career change for Neymar, writing: ‘Thoughts on Neymar’s Dive? I think he could be a professional diver at the next Olympic games.’

However, for one account the Brazilian’s performance on Wednesday night acted as a perfect example of his career at PSG.

They claimed: ‘Neymar’s career summed up almost perfectly for PSG tonight: Superb assist for Marquinhos. Outrageous elastico nutmeg. Red card, including a yellow for a shocking dive.’
