Alves plays for prison football team after arrest for alleged sexual assault

Veteran Brazilian footballer Dani Alves has reportedly made his debut for a prison football team following his arrest regarding an alleged sexual assault in a nightclub toilet earlier this month.

The 39-year-old, who has played in more than 1000 professional fixtures for club and country, is being held at Brians 2 prison in Catalonia having been accused of sexual assault and subsequently arrested on January 20.

Alves, who featured at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after having a second spell at Barcelona last season under former team-mate Xavi, is also said to be in Brians 2 alongside the former bodyguard of Ronaldinho.

Spanish outlet La Vanguardia report that Alves made his prison football debut and that the expectation was ‘great’ from other inmates who count themselves as fans.

As well as being inside with Ronaldinho’s former bodyguard, who goes by the name Coutinho, Alves is said to have signed shirts for fellow inmates.

Alves was released by Mexican outfit Pumas following his arrest, which came 21 days after the alleged incident on December 30.

Alves is the most decorated footballer in history and oldest player to ever play for Brazil at a World Cup at 39 years and 210 days.

Alves flew to Spain from Mexico with the permission of Pumas after the mother of his model wife Joana Sanz had died.

UNAM Pumas confirmed in a statement: “We regret the death of the mother of Joana Sanz, wife of our player Dani Alves. We send our most sincere condolences.”
