CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Paris Saint-Germain fight back to deny Real Madrid victory after 2-2 draw at Santiago Bernabeu
PSG fought back to secure a 2-2 draw against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu in match day four of the Champions League group stages.
Real Madrid led PSG 1-0 for most of the game but the last ten minutes was dramatic as two quick PSG goals cancelled out Madrid initial two goals. Zidane’s side had dominated a slow PSG side in the first half and early stages of the second half.
As Real Madrid took the lead on 17’ minute after Karim Benzema simply tap in a rebound before the French International rose above PSG defense to head home Marcelo’s cross to double Madrid lead on the 79’ minutes.
In what seemed Madrid were running away with a 2-0 victory at home, PSG warmed themselves into the game with the last remaining 10 minute being Thomas Tuchel’s side best performance of the game.
After few times of treats, Kylian Mbappe pulled one back for the away side, and a nice team goal, inspired by substitute Neymar who picked the ball in midfield, link up with his teammates outside Madrid box before the ball finally find the path of Pablo Sarabia, the Spaniard wasted no time to slot the ball at the left top corner of Courtois to ensure PSG draw level with Zidane’s side on the 83’ minute.
Gareth Bale nearly and his effort to restore Madrid’s lead, primarily from a free kick out the box hit the woodwork to deny Madrid a victory on 90+4 minute.
Madrid secure their spot in the knockout rounds in advance thanks to Club Brugge’s 1-1 draw at Galatasaray earlier Tuesday in the other group game, however, PSG tops Group A with 13 points five more above Real Madrid.
