Mohamed El-Shennawy: Egypt fully committed to FIFA Arab Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations following Lebanon win

Egypt national team goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that they are currently focused on the FIFA Arab Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.

The FIFA Arab Cup is currently taking place in Qatar as it started on the 30th of November and it’s set to end on the 18th of December.

The Pharaohs started their Arab Cup campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Lebanon through a penalty kick executed by Mohamed Magdy Afsha.

The victory put Egypt in second place in Group D behind Algeria who won their first game against Sudan 4-0.

After the win, El-Shennawy stated that the current focus of the Egyptian national team is not World Cup qualification as that will come later, right now they are focused on the FIFA Arab Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.

“We are not thinking about the World Cup Qualifications right now, we have the FIFA Arab Cup and the Africa Cup of nations to think about first,” El-Shennawy told ONTime Sports.

“Once we are done with the two tournaments, we will be fully committed to doing our best in the FIFA World Cup Qualifications.”

It’s worth noting that the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to take place between 9 January 2022 and 6 February 2022 across five cities in Cameroon.
