Egypt come from 2 goals behind against Angola to reach final World Cup qualifier round

The Pharaohs have earned their spot in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers final round after an away 2-2 draw with Angola in the Group stage.

In the fifth round fixture of the FIFA World Cup qualifications’ Group stage, Angola hosted Egypt in a critical game in the Pharaohs’ journey.

Before the round started, Egypt sat on top of the group with ten points, followed by Libya who had six points, then Gabon with four points, and Angola came last with three points.

Going into the game, the Egyptian national team only needed a point to advance to the final round of the FIFA World Cup qualifications.

Despite being out of the qualification race, Angola started the game strong, they possessed the ball looking for the opening goal of the night.

In the 26th minute of the first half, Angola’s possession proved to be fruitful as they could score through a strong close-range shot by Helder Costa.

Only ten minutes later, the Angolan national team was awarded a penalty kick after Akram Tawfik’s violent interception on Ambrosini Salvador ‘Zini’.

M’Bala Nzola then took the chance to double the lead for his team from the penalty spot to make the Egyptians’ mission harder.

After Angola’s second goal, Queiroz’s men started to seek ball possession hoping to return to the game before the end of the first half, and they successfully did when Elneny’s shot found its way to the Angolan nets after Salah’s assist pass.

Egypt started looking for their second goal immediately after the half-time break, and it took them less than 15 minutes as Akram Tawfik sent a strike that changed direction after hitting a defender to announce the second Egyptian goal.

The remainder of the game was relatively calm but the Egyptian chances were more dangerous. Especially with the wide spaces in the Angolan defenses. However, the game saw no more goals to end in a 2-2 draw.

The Egyptian national team has now advanced to the final round of the FIFA World Cup qualifications alongside Mali, Morocco, and Senegal.

Six more nations will join them in the final round where only five teams will earn a soon in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
