Pedro Gonçalves: Angola manager applauds Carlos Quieroz Egyptian appointment

Angola head coach Pedro Gonçalves claims that Queiroz taking charge of Egypt national team was unexpected, but it’s a great decision nonetheless.

Two weeks ago, Egypt Football Association announced Carlos Queiroz as the new national team head coach, signaling the end of Hossam El-Badry’s tenure.

Queiroz joins the Pharaohs in their mission to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, as his contract will be canceled in case of qualification failure.

Egypt’s situation in the world cup qualifiers is not the best, as the national team is currently second in Group F with four points behind Libya who won their first two games claiming six points.

After the announcement, Angola head coach Pedro Gonçalves touched on what he called ‘surprising’ arrival of his countryman Carlos Quieroz to Egypt.

“Queiroz taking charge of Egypt was a surprise to me, but it was a great decision by the Egyptian Football Association.

“Carlos is an inspiring coach, I am glad I will see him when we face Egypt, it would be great if I could beat him.

“Egypt’s qualification mission is not an easy one, only five African countries will be going to Qatar, which is unfair, African football deserves more spots in The World Cup.”

When asked about Salah, Pedro said: “Salah is one of the best five players in the world, however, Egypt national team is not a one-player team, they have a lot of good players like Hegazi for example, but Salah gives them a huge advantage for sure.”
