African side Tunisia suffer loss in their first game of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina.

England secured a 1-0 win over Tunisia to kickstart their Under-20 World Cup campaign.

Tottenham striker Dane Scarlett rose highest from a first-half Harvey Vale cross to head the only goal in La Plata in the Group E opener.

Ian Foster started the Spurs youngster up front with Tottenham team-mate Alfie Devine and Southampton’s Samuel Edozie flanking him in the absence of Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka, who pulled out of the group stage to play for his club.

But the Chelsea were still represented by England captain Vale, who played on the left of a 3-4-3 formation in front of Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys.

Edozie and Devine combined in a slick move that almost led to the second goal on 68 minutes as the Tottenham winger poked an effort inches wide of the far post.

Tunisia goalkeeper Dries Arfaoui kept the score down in stoppage time with a smart low save from Daniel Jebbison’s run and shot before again denying the Sheffield United striker from the resultant corner.

England continue their Group E campaign in Argentina with a game against Uruguay on Thursday.

Elsewhere in the first round of matches, Chelsea youngster Cesare Casadei netted twice in Italy’s 3-2 win over Brazil.

France’s U20 World Cup campaign began with a 2-1 defeat to South Korea in Mendoza.
