Egypt draw against 10-man Swaziland in U-23 AFCON qualifiers

Egypt’s U-23 national team have played out a goalless draw against Swaziland in the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Pharaohs had appointed Brazilian manager Rogério Micale as their new head coach to replace Shawky Gharib at the helm.

Micale’s mission is to guide Egypt to the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and ultimately, to the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

His first encounter in the qualifiers came against Swaziland as Egypt were handed an early boost in the opening minutes.

Swaziland were reduced to 10 men after just 19 minutes after a reckless challenge on Al Ahly’s Mostafa Saad ‘Messi’.

However, Egypt still failed to find the breakthrough despite having a man advantage for the majority of the game.

Rogerio Micale’s side will hope to seal qualification for the next round when both sides meet again for the second leg in Alexandria next week on October 30th.
