Hossam El-Badry opens up on departure from Egypt job
Former Egypt head coach Hossam El-Badry expressed his dismay at how he left the national team last year.
El-Badry was sacked as the Pharaohs’ coach in September of last year following Egypt’s 1-1 draw with Gabon in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The 62-year-old was unbeaten in his nine-match run at the helm but uninspiring performances from Egypt led to his dismissal.
Just over a year after his departure, El-Badry suggested that some members of the Egyptian Football Association conspired against him.
“I think people questioning the sacking of an undefeated coach to this day is a testament to how inexplicable the decision was,” El-Badry told beIN Sports.
“I was hoping to stay and in football, you don’t get much success if you make unnecessary decisions. That’s why Egypt have been on a downward spiral.
“My wish was to continue as head coach and guide Egypt to the World Cup. That was my dream but it wasn’t meant to be.
“I will not say that the entire Egyptian Football Association was the reason for my downfall, but I would certainly hold some individuals accountable,” he added.
