Afcon debutants Comoros Islands announce final squad for Cameroon 2021

Africa Cup of Nations 2021 debutants Comoros Islands head coach Amir Abdou has named a final 27-man squad for the tournament next month in Cameroon.

The Coelacanths will be making their first ever appearance in the tournament which will run from 9 January to 6 February 2022.

Comoros secured their qualification from a Group which had giants Egypt, Togo and Kenya.

Abdou released his squad list for the AFCON on Thursday for the historic participation in Cameroon.

Red Star Belgrade star El Fardou Mohamed Ben Nabouhane who is the country’s all-time has been named alongside EA Guingamp skipper Youssouf M’Changama.

Highly-rated winger Faïz Selemani who plays for Belgian side KV Kortrijk has also been listed for the tournament.

Selemani has been in devastating form in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League this season having scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in 20 appearances.

France-born 20-year-old defensive midfielder Iyad Mohamed made the cut for the AFCON tournament.

France-born and Saint Etienne midfielder Zaydou Youssouf rejected call-up to represent Comoros at Africa’s biggest football showpiece.

The Coelacanths are drawn in Group C alongside four-time champions Ghana, Morocco and Gabon.

Comoros will begin their AFCON campaign against Gabon on 10 January 2022 before facing Ghana and Morocco in subsequent matches.
