Morocco omit Hakim Ziyech from Afcon call-up as boss Vahid Halilhodzic names final squad

Morocco have committed superstar Hakim Ziyech from their Afcon Cameroon 2021 squad.

Morocco national team head coach Vahid Halilhodzic has announced his final squad for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations which will place in Cameroon.

The Bosnian trainer released a 25-man list for the next month’s tournament on Thursday.

The biggest omission from the squad is Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech who has been out of the Atlas Lions for some time now due to misunderstanding with the coach.

Sevilla FC striker Youssef En-Nesyri who recovered from an injury recently has been included in the squad for the tournament.

En-Nesyri was top scorer of the Spanish side with 24 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions.

Surprise inclusions in Halilhodzic’s squad are FC Barcelona youngster Abde Ezzalzouli and Azzedine Ounahi who plays for French Ligue 1 side Angers SCO.

The Atlas Lions finished top of Group E during the qualifications with an unbeaten record having won four and drew twice from six games.

Morocco were also the best defensive side in the qualifiers after conceding just once throughout.

The 1976 African champions are drawn in Group C with Ghana, Gabon and debutants Comoros.

Morocco play Ghana in their opening of the tournament on 10 January 2022 before taking on Comoros and Gabon in the other group matches.
