Egyptian tennis player, Mayar Sherif, has equalled her best ever WTA ranking after winning the WTA 125 title in Marbella.

Mayar Sherif had a disappointing start to 2022 after being knocked-out from the first round of the Australian Open, Qatar Open and Miami Open.

The Egyptian, however, compensated for these losses by lifting her first trophy of the year, when she won the WTA 125 title in Marbella on Sunday.

Mayar had to beat Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch in the final in a two-hour-long clash, where she won 7-6, 6-4.

This marked the 25-year-old’s first title since the 2021 Karlsruhe Open in Germany last September.

By doing so, Mayar jumped 12 spots in the latest update of the WTA ranking, equalling her best ever ranking at 61.
