Chippa United readying discussions with Mamelodi Sundowns to keep Isima Watenga

Chippa United are set to meet with Mamelodi Sundowns as they look to finalise their squad ahead of the 2021/22 season.

The Gqeberha-based outfit are currently planning for next season after retaining their top flight status in the recently completed relegation/promotion play-offs.

Chippa are considering offering midfielder Kurt Lentjies, who officially became a free agent on Wednesday, a new contract to keep him at the club next season.

Former Sundowns duo Anthony Laffor and Oupa Manyisa are also amongst those whose contracts at the Chilli Boys have run out at the end of last month with their futures now up for review.

According to an insider, the club is also expected to meet with The Brazilians to discuss the possibility of keeping Ugandan goalkeeper Isima Watenga.

Watenge spent few months training at Chloorkop and is believed to have signed with the DStv Premiership champions, but moved to Chippa in December last year.

“The club is willing to keep Kurt Lentjies for next season. It will all depend on negotiations over the new contract,” says the source.

“The club will also meet with Mamelodi Sundowns to discuss about the possibility of keeping Watenga again next season.”

Chippa United are expected  to announce new coach before the weekend after parted ways with Lehlohonolo Seema recently.
