Kaizer Chiefs reach final of African Champions League first time in history after 0-0 draw with Wydad Casablanca
Kaizer Chiefs have reached their first final of the Caf Champions League after draw 0-0 with Wydad Casablanca in second leg. Their final achievement comes in style after avoiding a defeat in both legs against one of the best teams in the Caf Champions League.
The South African giants welcomed the former champions Wydad Casablanca to the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening and that with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg in Casablanca. Samir Nurkovic’s first half strike was the deal to hand Kaizer Chiefs that vital victory a week ago.
The both teams shared to spoils in the first half in today’s clash but Wydad Casablanca were confident of a goal in the second half. They started the second half strongly and nearly broke the deadlock midway as Onajem’s 59 ‘ minute header narrowly missed the cross bar. That was the North African’s best chance of the half.
Three minutes later, Kiazer Chiefs created their best chance of the game when the South Africans broke on counter, a long pass from the right side found Nokurvic inside the box. The Amakhosi forward beat Dari to the aerial duel and headed the ball which took a scoring height from the ground but Wydad goalkeeper Tagnaouti stretched to save from entering in top right corner.
Afterwards, both teams failed to create scoring goal opportunities as the game ended goalless draw but Wydad were the better side throughout the game.
Kaizer Chiefs will now face winner between Esperance de Tunis and Al Ahly in the final on 17th July. The defending champions hold first leg 1-0 advantage where Mohamed Sherif second half goal sink Esperance in Stade Olympique Redes last weekend.
