Sameehg Doutie: Former Orlando Pirates winger considering retirement from football
Former Orlando Pirates winger Sameehg Doutie admits to considering retirement while remaining in the football wilderness without a club.
Though still an active footballer the 32-year-old has spent an extended period on the football scrapheap since a spell at now-defunct Bidvest Wits FC back in 2019.
Doutie won the Premier Soccer League title and MTN8 Cup in 2011/12 with Orlando Pirates and the Indian Super League with Atletico de Kolkata in 2016.
“I’ve been keeping fit, looking after my two-year-old daughter, trying to remain focused on what I have to do and trying to remain positive,” Doutie tells KickOff.
“I haven’t been playing, everyone knows that, they don’t see me play anymore.
“These things happen you have to prepare for it you know, and yes I’m still active and can still play.
“When you are in that situation you also need to try to do what is right, yes you still want to be there and play your last years but unfortunately there’s nothing, you have to find different avenues, in what you want to do besides football.
“You know you always have those thoughts of retiring because once you reach 30 people start to think you are old.
“But I believe if you’re still fit and strong enough, looking after your body and you can still compete or help clubs I think you can still play.
“As a footballer, you start questioning yourself you know, is it the time?
“I feel I still have two, three seasons you know, there are too many different opinions out there.”
