Al Ahly five players test positive for COVID-19 ahead of WE League Cup

Egyptian Premier League powerhouse, Al Ahly, have revealed that five of their first-team players have tested positive for COVID-19 including South African International Percy Tau.

With the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations right around the corner, the Egyptian Premier League, much like all African leagues, has been suspended until the tournament ends for the Pharaohs.

However, Egyptian teams won’t be getting a lengthy rest as the first edition of the WE League Cup is set to start on 12 January.

Al Ahly are currently preparing for the tournament, as they aim to add a new trophy to their already packed trophy cabinet.

The Red Devils were, however, were handed a heavy blow during their preparations, as five players tested positive after the club’s daily COVID-19 test, which aims to combat the spread of the virus.

The team’s doctor, Ahmed Abu Abla, revealed the name of the five players, which are Yasser Ibrahim, Percy Tau, Luís Miquissone, Ahmed Nabil “Koka” and Ahmed Abdelkader.

Abu Abla then assured that the players are currently self-isolating and that their condition will be monitored by the medical staff.
