Al Ahly eyeing move for Zamalek forward Achraf Bencharki

Al Ahly sporting director, Sayed Abdel-Hafiz, said the club are following Zamalek’s Achraf Bencharki situation and might think of signing him.

Zamalek have been working on renewing Achraf Bencharki’s contract for months, with his contract set to expire next June.

Despite having renewed for several key players such as Ahmed Sayed Zizo and Mahmoud Hamdy El-Wensh, the negotiations with the Morocco international haven’t been advancing.

Zamalek had hinted on various occasions that they were close to reaching an agreement but nothing has been announced yet.

With six months left on his contract, Bencharki is now free to speak with any other club to negotiate a potential move this summer.

The Morocco international has been heavily linked with a move to the Gulf with many Emirati and Saudi teams reportedly showing interest.

While remaining in Egypt doesn’t seem like a viable option for Bencharki, Zamalek’s arch-rivals Al Ahly haven’t ruled out a potential move to approach the 27-year-old.

“He’s a very special player and he plays for a big club,” Abdel-Hafiz told MBC Masr TV.

“At the end of the day, it’s a possibility. It’s normal to think of acquiring a player, especially with Achraf Bencharki’s capabilities,” he added.
