Pyramids FC beat Zamalek to deadline day signing of Walid El-Karti from Wydad Casablanca

Pyramids FC have completed the signing of Wydad Casablanca star Walid El-Karti on the final day of the summer Egyptian transfer window.

The sheer number of Moroccan players playing in Egypt has become a notable trend in recent years, with the likes of Achraf Bencharki and Badr Benoun being an integral part of Zamalek’s and Al Ahly’s squads.

Walid Azaro, Omar Najdi, Hamid Ahadad, Mohammad Ounnajem, and Khalid Boutaïb are also some of the names that lit the Egyptian Premier League on fire in the last few years.

The latest Moroccan to join the list will be Walid El-Karti, who put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract with Pyramids FC, becoming their sixth summer signing.

Pyramids FC snatched the services of the 27-year-old after beating off competition from rivals Zamalek, who are going through financial hardships.

El-Karti has been an integral part of the Wydad team since joining from Olympique Khouribga back in 2013, scoring 27 goals while assisting 33 in 277 games.

This season alone, he featured four times with Wydad, starting just once and scoring in his final game for the club in a 3-2 victory over Club Athletic Youssoufia Berrechid.

During his eight-year stay with Wydad, El-Karti led Wydad to four league titles, the 2017 CAF Champions League, and the CAF Super back in 2018.

He will now hope to win Pyramids FC their first-ever tournament as the club will hope for better times under new head coach Ehab Galal.
