Mohamed Magdy Afsha ruled out of Al Ahly Caf Champions League against Niger’s Union Sportive de la Gendarmerie Nationale

Al Ahly star Mohamed Magdy Afsha has been ruled out of the team’s 2022 CAF Champions League opener against Niger’s Union Sportive de la Gendarmerie Nationale due to personal reasons.

Afsha has been an integral part of the Red Devils in recent years, guiding the team to back-to-back CAF Champions Leagues after scoring against Zamalek and Kaizer Chiefs in the finals of 2020 and 2021.

In a huge surprise, the player failed to make Egypt’s squad for the Libya World Cup games, with new Pharaohs manager Carlos Queiroz refusing to disclose the reasons.

Al Ahly took advantage of the situation and rewarded the player with a deserved rest and gave him permission to miss their next game against Niger’s Union Sportive de la Gendarmerie Nationale as the fixture clashes with his wedding day.

The first-leg of the clash will take place away from home on Saturday, October 16, before both teams face each other again a week later.

Pitso Mosimane will now probably depend on one of Ahmed Abdelkader or Amar Hamdi to replace the star man in order to avoid any surprises in the early stages of the compeition.
