It would be no surprise that Badji tipped the South African side as his toughest rivals. Ahly eliminated Mamelodi Sundown from this year’s CAF Champions League and Badji was carefully handled by the Downs back-lines over the two legged game.
“I was told that Al-Ahly had not defeated Pyramids, it was a tough game, but the Sundowns match was the most difficult, technically and physically,” Badji admitted.
“We attended the Sundowns match with a full-strength squad and I was ready to participate. It is a shame that Al Ahly lost twice to Sundowns because we are the best in Africa.
“I learned of Al-Ahly’s loss against Sundowns with five goals, and everyone had a determination and determination to erase the effects of last year’s defeat.”

Ahly claimed a sweet revenge against Sundowns in the quarter finals of this year’s Champions League having the PSL giants being a stubborn side for the North Africans over the last few years in Africa.
The Reds ambition to end their almost seven years of drought in the Champions League last season was brought to end by the South Africans, white-washing the Cairo based side 5-0 in the first leg of the 2019 CAF Champions League before losing 1-0 in the return leg in Cairo, and qualified to the next stage of the competition on 5-1 aggregate.
That has long been hunting Ahly as that marked one of their biggest defeats on the continent over a couple of decades now in continental campaign.

Despite Downs defence holding Ahly’s attack for most minutes in the first leg in Cairo, the Egyptians eventually run away the tie with a deserving 2-0 victory before holding Downs to a 1-1 draw in South Africa a week later.
Badji though played a big part in Ahly’s victory in the first leg, winning a penalty for his side, he was completely dealt with by Downs defence in the second leg.
