Pitso Mosimane compares Al Ahly 2021 FIFA Club World Cup bronze medal to last season

Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane believes that this year’s Club World Cup bronze medal is better than last year’s one.

African champions Al Ahly have clinched the Club World Cup bronze medal for a second consecutive year following a historic 4-0 victory over Asian champions Al Hilal.

Not only did Al Ahly have claimed their third-ever medal in the Club World Cup, but they recorded their biggest-ever victory in their history in the tournament.

What makes the achievement even sweeter for the fans was the fact that the team had many absences due to injuries, suspensions, and the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

And all of these circumstances have given the bronze medal a different meaning to Pitso Mosimane, who is upset he couldn’t grab a new medal this time.

“The bronze medal means a lot to us. We didn’t improve our position from last year, but I am happy and the fans are happy. We worked and fought hard.

“It was a difficult match for the opponent after the two red cards to their players, but before they were sent off, we were strong and scored a goal when they were complete.

“The positive thing is that we played against all circumstances. We came here with a lot of absences and injuries, such as Mohamed El-Shennawy, Percy Tau, and Akram Tawfik, but we showed a great spirit.

“I am not happy despite winning the bronze medal. I wanted one of a different colour this time, but after all, we made a huge achievement to Al Ahly and Egypt.

“For me, this year’s medal is better than last season’s,” Mosimane concluded.

The bronze medal means that Pitso Mosimane has become the only coach other than Zinedine Zidane to win two successive Club World Cup medals.
