Patrice Carteron not making promises into Zamalek’s poor run of form in Caf Champions League after Sagrada Esperanca draw

Zamalek head coach Patrice Carteron has refused to make promises to the fans following his team’s poor start to the CAF Champions League campaign.

Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek are yet to claim their first win in the CAF Champions League group-stage after a 0-0 draw with Angolan side Sagrada Esperança.

Petro de Luanda now lead the group with four points one point ahead of second-placed Wydad Casablanca, who they had beat earlier in Angola.

Meanwhile, Zamalek sit third with two points, while Sagrada Esperança languish at the bottom with just one point.

Speaking after the game, Carteron said: “The team is still suffering from wasting opportunities and the inability to translate their dominance into goals.

“The team’s performance was not good in the first half, but the opponent did not pose a threat to our goal.

“I don’t have to make promises right now, it doesn’t matter. Anything is possible, today Petro Luanda beat Wydad. we have only played two games, we must learn from what happened, there are four games left and the chance to qualify is there.

“The previous situations that Zamalek were exposed to in the past years make us insist on addressing mistakes and searching for victories in the upcoming matches.

“The team has four matches ahead of the group stage. I am completely confident in the players’ ability to win against Wydad in the next round,” he added.
