Zamalek provide updates on future of Patrice Carteron, Ferjani Sassi and Abou-Gabal

Zamalek board member, Ahmed Mortada Mansour, revealed whether or not they could re-sign Tunisian midfielder Ferjani Sassi.

Zamalek failed to claim their first win in the CAF Champions League group-stage after being held to two consecutive draws, the latest of which came in the form of 0-0 result against Angola’s Sagrada Esperança.

The Whites now sit third with two points, one behind third-placed Wydad Casablanca and two behind Petro Luanda. Meanwhile, Sagrada Esperança languish at the bottom with just one point.

Despite the result, Mansour said they are fully-focused on next week’s game against Wydad Casablanca, and assured fans about head coach Patrice Carteron’s future.

“An important match awaits us in a week. There are a lot of rumours about changing the technical staff, and this is not the appropriate time,” Mansour told TEN TV.

“What was reported about holding a session with a Spanish coach to take charge of the team is just rumours. The same type of rumours that suggested we were in negotiations with Hossam El-Badry.

“We are brave enough to publicly say if we want to replace Carteron with another coach,” he added.

Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Abou-Gabal recently became a hero among Egyptian fans following his displays in the Africa Cup of Nations, which guided Egypt to the final.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, meaning he could join any team as a free agent, Abou-Gabal has been linked with several moves abroad, especially from Saudi Arabia.

Yet, Mansour confirmed that they aren’t planning on selling the 33-year-old as he’s an integral part of their plans.

“Mohamed Abou-Gabal confirmed that he did not sign for any other club, and that he will remain with Zamalek, the club he desires. He’s performing very well for us, and god willing, he will continue with the team.

Mansour ended his statement by revealing if the club plans to bring back Ferjani Sassi, who left the club last summer to sign for Qatar’s Al-Duhail

“As for what was reported about Ferjani Sassi’s return to Zamalek, if the board want him back, they are able to do so,” he concluded.
