Afsha dedicates Caf Super Cup glory against Raja Casablanca to Al Ahly fans after 6-5 on penalties victory in Qatar

Al Ahly players, Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Ali Maaloul, thanked the Reds fans after lifting the CAF Super Cup following their win over Raja Casablanca.

After trailing for the majority of the game, Al Ahly snatched a late equaliser through Taher Mohamed to send the CAF Super Cup to penalties where they eventually won 6-5.

By winning the trophy, Pitso Mosimane has become the first Al Ahly manager to win the CAF Champions League and the CAF Super Cup for two successive times since Manuel Jose in 2007.

Moreover, Al Ahly have lifted the Super Cup for a record eighth time as they now have reached their 25th international trophy, sitting just one behind European giants Real Madrid.

Maaloul, who had just lost the Arab Cup final with Tunisia, is grateful to have won the Super Cup after such a heart-breaking game.

“Thank God, after a disappointment with the national team in the Arab Cup final, I had the opportunity to win a title with Al Ahly only four days later,” Maaloul said in a post-match interview. “I congratulate the fans and the players. We gave everything we had in the 90 minutes and deserved to win, and the next period will be better,” he added.

Additionally, Mohamed Magdy Afsha made sure to thank the fans after the win.

“We should have won for the Al-Ahly fans so that he would not leave the stadium sad,” Afsha said.

“It was a difficult game against a difficult side. I congratulate all the fans and players, and I congratulate Taher Mohamed Taher for his wonderful goal that made us equalise,” he concluded.
