Amr Zaki returns to Zamalek after been club’s vice head of youth department

Former Egypt and Wigan forward Amr Zaki has been named as Zamalek’s new vice head of the youth department, the club announced on Wednesday.

Zaki retired in 2015 following a short spell with Egyptian Premier League side Arab Contractors, ending his professional career after playing a total of 133 games.

The 38-year-old had led Zamalek’s attack in multiple stints, scoring 23 goals and providing six assists in just 55 appearances.

On an international level, Zaki was also part of Egypt’s golden generation and contributed to their Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2006 and 2008.

In a recent meeting with former Zamalek players, club president Mortada Mansour announced the appointment of Zaki as the new vice head of their youth department.

Zaki has been said to be going through a tough time psychologically as of late, and the former Lokomotiv Moscow & ENPPI man expressed his gratitude to Zamalek for giving him an opportunity in such circumstances.

“I thank Mortada Mansour for supporting me in difficult times, and I thank Zamalek, who I consider to be my home,” Zaki told the club’s official website.

“It is an honour for me to be a part of Zamalek and serve the club in any position,” he added.
