Kaizer Chiefs can emulate Orlando Pirates strategy for signing Kwame peprah to capture one of two GPL top scorers

Kaizer Chiefs have been linked with several players ahead of next season. While they cannot sign every player, Chiefs can deploy rivals Orlando Pirates transfer strategy for signing Ghanaian International Kwame Peprah last season to capture another GPL scorer.

Last season, Pirates beat European interest to the signing of Kwame Peprah who emerged second top scorer in the Ghana Premier League with 12 goals.

The Ghanaian International impressed in his first season helping Pirates to PSL sixth position and final of the Caf Confederation Cup though they lost 4-3 on penalties to RB Berkane.

Don’t miss out on

Prior to Peprah’s move to Pirates, the forward had rose to prominence in the Ghana Premier League two seasons ago scoring 12 goals to second Karela United star Diawisie Taylor in the GPL goal-king chase.

Peprah was heavily linked with big moves to Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Simba Sporting Club but Pirates won the race at the end of it all. The PSL outfit were aware of the huge internet from the outside continent and strong competition they face within for Peprah’s signature. Pirates unlocked that with early negotiations with Peprah’s parent club King Faisal and had a breakthrough before competitors could pulled their masses together.

Another PSL side Kaizer Chiefs find themselves in similar situation of Pirates as the Amakhosi are interested in Asante Kotoko forward Mbella Etouga and Yaw Annor from Ash Gold.

The two attackers stormed the Ghana Premier League in the just ended season with a combined of 43 league goals, playing for two different clubs.

Mbella scored 21 times for eventual league winners Asante Kotoko with the Cameroonian surpassed in last day of the Ghanaian top flight after Annor struck twice for Ash Gold in 2-2 draw at Bibiani Gold Stars to send his tally to 22 goals at the end of the season. Annor won the goal-king award with Mbella seconding.

Chiefs have started plans for next season where the striking force is one that they are hoping for the best ones. Mbella and Annor have both been linked with Kaizer Chiefs during the course of the season.

Mbella, a Cameroonian, 21, has also been understood to be monitored by Metz, Atletico Madrid, St. Etienne, Stade Rennais and Inter Milan.

Annor, 24, have reports linking him to Asante Kotoko as Mbella’s replacement, Simba SC, TP Mazembe and Turkish side Altat.

Despite the huge interest in the Ghana Premier League top scorers, it’s understood no official enquiry has been opened. And the PSL outfit must make contacts with Asante Kotoko and Ash Gold for Mbella and Annor respectively.

Kaizer Chiefs cannot afford to sign the two top scorers at the same time this summer but is possible to sign one of them. Any of Mbella or Annor will be a great addition as Chiefs prepare to make strong statement in the PSL next season.

Chiefs failed to qualify for African football after placing 5th on the PSL table with Mamelodi Sundowns, Cape Town City, Royal AM and Stellenbosch going to the Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Like Peprah at Pirates, Mbella or Annor will shine at Kaizer Chiefs if a deal is sealed. There is an important issue that Kaizer Chiefs need to learn more about, the willingness of the players to move to Naturena.

Mbella has not ruled out a move Kaizer Chiefs who have reportedly contacted the Cameroonian’s agent. However, the 21-year old attacker may want a move to France.

Annor is understood not to have a specific destination and will largely welcome a move to Kaizer Chiefs. Going by this, the PSL side must make strict move for Ghana Premier League top scorer Yaw Annor and make Mbella Etouga an option.
