A report in Soccer Laduma claims that GladAfrica Championship side Cape Town Spurs might be forced to sell their teenage sensation to Kaizer Chiefs due to challenges at the club.

The PSL side are after the signature of a versatile Cape Town Spurs defender, Rushwin Dortley, and indications are that the Soweto giants have tabled an offer the Cape-based outfit is considering accepting due to financial constraints.

As reported by Soccer Laduma back in March, Amakhosi showed interest in Dortley after his impressive showing in the second-tier league in the colours of CT Spurs.

The Soweto giants offered CT Spurs approximately R3 million for Dortley, but according to a well-placed source at Ikamva, Chiefs’ offer is hard to resist despite the Spurs’ valuation of the 20-year-old being around R5 million.

“Cape Town Spurs need to sell their top players to survive as they don’t have a sponsor. The club wants more than what Chiefs are offering, and the negotiations are ongoing. But chances are Spurs will accept the offer,” said the source.

“The PSL grant in the NFD is not enough to sustain a club like Spurs as they also have to pay their youth development coaches from U12 to U18 and the first team technical team and ABC Motsepe League. The Ikamva facilities also need to be maintained, so letting go of Dortley will help the club.”

Chiefs and CT Spurs have so far not been able to agree on a payment plan on the fee that was agreed in principle.

However, CT Spurs are willing to iron out the finer details, but if both parties don’t reach an agreement, CT Spurs will consider other options for the defender as he is also on the radar of several clubs in Europe.
