Mamelodi Sundowns close in on move for Maritzburg United forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane

Defending DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns are inching closer to securing their latest high-profile signing when the January transfer window opens next week.

Despite owning the Premier Soccer League for past few seasons now, Downs’ are careful about the future. They could have a better future only when they maintain their current form and even improve their circumstances.

This has put the Brazilians on their toes to enter into various transfer periods and would maintain such endeavor in January’s festive according to reports in South Africa.

Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly penciled down several players from the Dstv Premiership, Zambian league, Ghana Premier League and Dr. Congo Vodafone League.

One area the PSL side are seriously hoping to build very well is their forward despite leading this season’s log with 44 points and 33 goals emerging as the highest scoring side in the league so far.

The likes of King Faisal attacking man Zubairu Ibrahim, Hearts of Oak striker Afriyie Barnieh, Angola International Miguel Pedro and Maritzburg United forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane have been linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Zubairu Ibrahim has become recognizable following his hat-trick against Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko while Afriyie Barnieh has been one of the two main strikers for Hearts of Oak in past two seasons having captained Ghana to win the African U-20 Championship in March in Mauritania.

Miguel Pedro though has struggled at Zambian side Trident FC but he has been considered as experienced player by Mamelodi Sundowns while Bongokuhle Hlongwane has had fine time at Maritzburg.

South African portal Kickoff has now reveal that Sundowns are working hard behind the scenes to secure the services of Bongokuhle Hlongwane.

Hlongwane is among a number of players on the defending champions’ wanted list when the transfer window opens next month.

Cape Town City midfielder Bradley Ralani is another player being heavily linked with a move to the Brazilians.

According to sources, Sundowns aims to sign Hlongwane in the January window before loaning him back to Maritzburg for the remainder of the season.

“Trot Moloto is the person handling the deal and has already met Hlongwane’s parents with the intention to lure the player to Gauteng next year,” a source close to the club revealed.

“The plan is to sign the player in January and loan him again to Maritzburg United until June next year.

Sundowns currently lead the DStv premiership table by a huge 14-point margin with 44 points after 19 games so far this season.
