Mamelodi Sundowns to complete signing of Gift Motupa from Bidvest Wits next week

Premier Soccer League giants Mamelodi Sundowns are set to complete the transfer of Bidvest Wits midfielder Gift Motupa next week according to latest reports from South Africa.

Pitso Mosimane’s side have already planning their summer transfer activities in presence of the coronavirus pandemic amid their domestic and continental ambitions for next season.

Downs have rejected Al Ahly’s bid to sign forward Gaston Sirino in what highlights the PSL side’s intend to strengthen than to sell their stars especially to competitors in the CAF Champions League.

If Sirino stays which looks more than likely to happen for next season together with Mauricio Affonso, Lebohang Maboe, Phakamani Mahlambi, and Anthony Laffor, Sundowns already have a sharp attack- though they could add few more strikers where they are reportedly eyeing TP Mazembe’s Jackson Muleka to make their attacking lines more potent for next term.

The midfield is currently where manager Pitso Mosimane is desperate to strength and his side are monitoring the situation of Ghanaian midfielder Justice Blay- who is on loan at Asante Kotoko from Medeama SC- thought the Ghana Premier League side are hoping to reach permanent deal for Blay.

Bidvest Bits marksman Gift Motupa is another midfielder Mamelodi Sundowns are eyeing in a bid for their midfield reinforcement. Motupa has been linked with a move to the Brazilians for a while and the move now is closer than ever as revealed by close source to Sundowns.

It was reported earlier this week that the 24-year old has already signed for Downs. However, report from Goal appears otherwise and claims that Downs will complete Motupa’s transfer only in next week in what will be one of Mosimane’s top transfer priorities.

The source has offered a line of hope for the Downs supporters revealing ‘there is a deal in principle’ to sign Motupa but only next week on a 5-year split deal.

“There is a deal in principle but until he has put pen to paper, we cannot say the deal is done,” the source told Goal.

“Having said that, we expect him (Motupa) to finalise everything with Sundowns next week. They are the only team he has been in talks with at this stage.”

“It’s a five-year deal but the final two years will be optional, meaning he will sign a three-year deal with an option to renew for a further two years.”

“However, I think the club will announce the deal at the end of the [current] season,” concluded the source.

If Downs complete the signing of the Bidvest Bits ace, it would be one of the best signings in the Premier Soccer League transfer market and offer the Brazilians a competing power in the African Champions League- a competition stated by Mosimane as their top most priority for next season.

Mosimane’s side are in pole position to qualify for the competition fin 2020/2021 season lying second to Kaizer Chiefs on the PSL table as the league knee restarting under strict medical measures from the covid-19 suspension.

Meanwhile, the signing of Motupa can be influential in fighting for the PSL title and the Champions League crown next season.

The 24-year old grabbed 11 goals across all competitions in his first season, and this season alone, the former Bucs marksman has scored 12 goals in 25 games to take his tally of goals with Wits to 23 in 50 appearances.
