Kaizer Chiefs to sign Darren Smith

With three strikers having since completed trials with Kaizer Chiefs, it’s understood that a South African striker could be set to begin an assessment period of his own with the Glamour Boys.

Young striker Fuad Johnson has signed for Motsepe Foundation Championship side La Masia, while Wayde Lekay has been strongly linked with both Swallows and Royal AM. Sierra Leone international Musa Kamara was also assessed by the Soweto giants.

Only Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana of Burundi looks likely to be signed by Chiefs.

According to Soccer Laduma, the former SuperSport United, HIK Honka, Ekenas IF striker, Darren Smith who recently parted ways with Moroccan outfit AS FAR could be set for an assessment period with Amakhosi.

The striker is currently a free agent having spent just six months in Morocco where the 26-year-old managed one goal in his eight appearances for AS FAR.

Smith set the scene alight in Finland, both in the second division as well as the topflight where he scored 31 goals in 61 games for Ekenas and Honka respectively.

Indications are that the former Finnish Ykkonen Player of the Season and Golden Boot winner will look to impress coach Arthur Zwane and his technical team in the hope of securing a deal with the Soweto giants.
