Chelsea close to completing a deal for Derby County youngster Max Bird

Max Bird has had eyes on his performance by Chelsea for a couple of times before the season was abruptly interrupted by the covid-19 pandemic.

The defensive midfielder has been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent days and the Blues are understood to speed up proceedings to snatch Bird as the season is on potential return.

According to reports, Chelsea technical staff led by Frank Lampard and Jody Morris has targeted to bring the 19-year old to Stamford Bridge before any of Chelsea’s rivals particularly in Manchester City who are also interested in the youngster make advance in competing them for the player’s signature.

Lampard did not only manage Bird at Derby, but also handed the youngster his debut when Frank Lampard was bossing at Pride Park.

It’s now revealed that Chelsea have already contacted Derby, and the Championship side are ready to sell their starlet for £4.5million.

The Rams were reportedly placed a £5million price tag on the boy but would reduce the price a little due to financial difficulty from the pandemic’s crisis to get the deal done for Bird faster.

The youngster has made another 19 first-team appearances under Phillip Cocu since breaking into the first team, making the defensive midfield slot his own.
