Manchester United bolster squad with FOUR deadline day signings of Cavani, Traore, Telles and Pellistri

Manchester United have strengthened their squad with FOUR deadline day signings in the wake of Sunday’s humiliating 6-1 defeat to Tottenham.

Alex Telles joined in a £15million deal from Porto, Amad Traore arrived for an initial £19m fee, with £18m in add-ons, from Atalanta, while Edinson Cavani was brought in on a free transfer.

Traore will link up with the United squad in January, subject to a medical, personal terms and work permit.

The fourth and final signing came with the capture of 18-year-old winger Facundo Pellistri from Uruguayan club Penarol.

On flip side of United’s transfer, Chris Smalling has joined Roma on a permanent deal for £13.5m, plus add-ons.

The 30-year-old starred in a loan spell for the Italian club last season, making 37 appearances. Meanwhile, United failed to sign Jadon Sancho from Dortmund after the Bundesliga side holding on to their £108million asking price.

Porto left-back Telles was linked with a move to Chelsea, Barcelona, Everton before Manchester United pop-up along the line to snatch the Brazilian on deadline day of this summer’s transfer window.

On Cavani, The Uruguay International was a free agent after expiration of his contract at French Champions PSG ending of last season.

The 33-year old was in talks to seal a move to Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Lazio but Ole’s side reached agreement with the player ahead of their competitions.

After completing his move to Manchester United, Cavani said he is happy to be at ‘one of the greatest clubs in the world where it is a real honour to be at Old Traford.

“Manchester United is one of the greatest clubs in the world, so it is a real honour to be here. I’ve worked really hard during the time off and I feel eager to compete and represent this incredible club.

“I have played in front of some of the most passionate supporters in football during my career and I know that it will be the same in Manchester.

“I cannot wait to experience the Old Trafford atmosphere, when it is safe for the fans to return.

“I look forward to continuing to write my little story inside the book of football and I know that’s why my focus has to remain the same as always – work, work, work.

“I have had a conversation with the manager and this has increased my desire to wear this beautiful shirt.”
