Chelsea set to leapfrog Liverpool in Timo Werner transfer as Blues making direct contacts with RB Leipzig

Chelsea may beat Liverpool to the signing of RB Leipzig striker Time Werner as Frank Lampard’s side have made contacts with the German outfits in a bid to sign Werner.

The 24-year-old has attracted several interests, and that is not a surprise thing after storming the German BundesLiga this season.

Though the stats speak well of the German’s form, striking 27 times in 36 appearances so far, the number of top European clubs fighting for his signature is a testament of venom in Werner in front of goal.

The likes of Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool have all shown interest in signing the Leipzig forward this summer.

However, he is mostly linked with a move to Liverpool as Werner himself prefers moving to the European champions in an attempt to play under countryman Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juve, Manchester United and Bayern have all reportedly forced to look elsewhere for options available since Werner sees Liverpool as his next possible destination, and the Laliga outfits in particular knee signing Lautaro Martinez and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang respectively.

Manchester United want to sign a striker but not Werner as the club have now cornered attention towards signing Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho and find a center forward later.

Juve have also decided not to pursue the German International in return while Bayern Munich are reportedly not in a hurry to sign a striker if they already have Robert Lewandowksi– who is arguably the best center forward in Europe this season- grabbing 52 goals in 43 games for club and country, with 4 impressive hat-tricks, and leads the Champions League top scorer chat with 11 goals.

This leaves Chelsea Liverpool’s main competitor for signing Werner. Chelsea are readying the exit doors for Olivier Giroud this summer, which means the Blues will need to sign a quality striker to compete Tammy Abraham next season.

They have been associated with interest in Lyon forward Moussa Dembele, Lautaro Martinez and Werner- who the Blues tried signing in the January transfer window- and have rekindle interest in signing the BundesLiga striker.

It is believed that the coronavirus pandemic has slow down Liverpool’s move in the chase and Chelsea who are desperate for the 24-year-old have begun making direct contacts to Leipzig over Werner as claimed by German source Kicker Sportmagazin.

Klopp’s side are not known to make any contacts yet, and with Chelsea beginning it all, Liverpool would have to deploy a dogfight measure to emerge as clear favorites again to secure the signature of the German International.
