Timo Werner transfer tussle begins as Manchester United table offer but Werner awaits deal from Liverpool

Before the summer transfer even opens, there could be a transfer tug of war between Manchester United and Liverpool, for no ordinary player but for one of the World’s most deadliest strikers so far, Timo Werner.

Werner has got the BundesLiga running under his feet, and despite not emerging as the league’s top scorer, he has managed to grab 21 goals out of 23 appearances in the BundesLiga, before stretching his domestic form to find back of the net four times in the UEFA Champions League.

His form has been undoubtedly enviable to BundesLiga competitors but has become a precious value for foreign clubs to trade, with most of the outside-German- clubs coming from the EPL including but not limited Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United.

It is believed that in the January window, Chelsea opened negotiations with Leipzig for Timo Werner but no concrete deal happened, serving as a great advantage to Liverpool and Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

Both clubs are preparing to walk into the summer window to trade top quality players, and with United’s summer transfer plans already confirmed by club Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward, Werner is one player Liverpool and Manchester United cannot overlooked.

It has now been claimed that Manchester United and Barcelona have already made proposals to sign the 23-year-old from Leipzig whilst Liverpool are still yet to make any official attempt.

Despite United and Barca’s offer, Werner is waiting up for Liverpool to make an offer in view of a unit with countryman Jurgen Klopp, as claimed by The Athletic.

Whilst Manchester United have kept in waiting by the German goal-poacher, Liverpool are reported to open negotiations with Leipzig mid next month instead, as further claimed by The Athletic.

Meanwhile, there is a clause in Werner’s contract at Leipzig where he could agree a £51million transfer with a club if a deal is negotiated before an April deadline set by Leipzig in view for the BundesLiga side to get ample time to find a replacement.

It’s obvious that Liverpool now hold advantage in the race for Werner, but the relationship between the player’s agent Karlheinz Forster and Klopp could be great asset for the Reds when the start talks with the Germans.
