Blow for PSG as Barcelona reject initial offer for Emerson as Brazilian increasingly likely to play at Camp Nou next season

FC Barcelona have rejected the first offer from Paris Saint-Germain for Emerson Royal, meaning the chances of the fullback playing for the Catalans next season are increasing. That’s the latest news from Catalonia, which says PSG offered less than 15 million euro for the Brazilian, who plays on loan for Real Betis.

Barça bought Emerson from Atlético Mineiro in a joint financial agreement with Betis. For that reason, the Catalans must pay a fee to fully own the player’s rights.

The Catalans had already rejected an offer from AC Milan of less than 23 million for the player last year. PSG are offering less than 15 million now, meaning they are far from Barça’s valuation.

Manager Ronald Koeman thinks the right-back position is well-covered by Sergiño Dest and Sergi Roberto, meaning there’s not a clear place for Emerson. However, there’s a good chance he may start pre-season with Barcelona soon.

There’s a chance that he could become Dest’s backup and Roberto could be moved to other spots, particularly his preferred position in midfield. Also, Dest could play more games at left-back, as Jordi Alba’s deputy.

The blaugrana do have Alejandro Baldé coming up through the ranks to play at left-back, but he may be blooded in at a slower pace.
