Chelsea sign former PSG star Thiago Silva using the free transfer approach

Chelsea have signed former Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva using the free-transfer-approach to rationalize reinforcements for their central defense.

The Premier League outfits confirmed Silva’s move to Stamford Bridge a day after the Brazilian completed his medicals in Italy.

Silva, 35, played football in Parc des Princes for seven years and left PSG with mixed emotions- while sharing tears of joy for reaching Champions League final for first time in career, he missed the prestigious title to Bayern Munich after Kingsley Coman’s second half strike sink Tuchel’s men.

And that was Silva’s last game for the French champions. Chelsea have been searching for a central defender since the departure of David Luiz, depending on inexperienced back line of Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger and Andrea Christensen for the ended season.

Several prospective names were linked with Blues but non of rumours materialized.

Albeit Chelsea was having problem at defense, Frank Lampard enters into this summer’s transfer market with strengthening his attacking department much bigger on sight.

Already, Chelsea have splashed cash, £200million out, in what a financial drainage manner, to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, Hakim Ziyech of Ajax, Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz depending deal.

With center-back reinforcement still a must before closure of the transfer window, thus when Chelsea want to compete for the Premier League title next season, Frank Lampard is slightly left in limbo over funds to bring in new faces to central defense.

Chelsea have been spotted using the free-transfer-system as a rational transfer tool to strengthen but reduced the cost of improving their weak centre-back half.

The West London side deployed same tool to land Malang Sarr after expiration of his contract at Nice without any further agreed contract with the Ligue 1 outfits.

Thiago Silva emerges the latest player to follow suit Chelsea’s free-transfer-approach in strengthen their central defense in this summer’s transfer window.

Silva is Chelsea’s sixth signing of this window and cold still add a few in shape of a goalkeeper as Arrizabalaga’s future at Stamford Bridge looks doubtful.
