Hearts of Oak could be turned into African giants again as Yassin Ouatching move edges closer

Accra Hearts of Oak Board Chairman, Togbe Afede promises to make Hearts ‘preeminent’ in African football. Since lifting the Caf Confederation Cup in 2004, Hearts of Oak have struggled to make impact in African football.

For over a decade, they made their first appears in the Caf Champions League in 2021-2022 season but failed to qualify to the group stage after being eliminated from the competition by Wydad Casablanca of Morocco.

Having dropped to the Confederation Cup as per Caf regulations, Their journey in the second tier tournament was thrashed by Algerian outfit JS Saoura. But Hearts officials are confident of bouncing back into African football. The majority shareholder of the club has burst into the scene to lead effort in making Hearts a formidable side again like their dominant period in early 2000s.

The majority shareholder, Togbe with his leading advocacy role will be boosted by the club’s fans in whatever effort coined to achieve that ambition. He has urged Hearts of Oak supporters to take part in the Phobia4life project that will boost the club financially for the agenda.

Meanwhile, Hearts have been have suffered a major blow on the immediacy for qualification to the African Champions League. They have thrown away chances of playing in the competition to rivals Asante Kotoko who now lead the Premier League table with 52 points- the only medium to progress into the Champions League.

The winner of the Ghanaian top flight league play in the Champions League while champions of the MTN FA Cup represent Ghana in the African Confederation Cup.

But they could utilize the FA Cup to participate in the Caf Confederation Cup. They face minnows Skyy FC in the MTN FA Cup quarter-finals with their chances into the semifinals brightened.

Hearts succumbed 1-0 to title rivals Kotoko last week in at the famous Baba Yara Sports Stadium and will host Elmina Sharks at the Accra Sports stadium in their next league fixture on Sunday. The outcome of the game will have little impact on the title chase after trailing the leaders 16 points from 1o games to end the season.

“Your club is on a very laudable journey. We’ve various programs to make Accra Hearts of Oak truly preeminent in African football,” Togbe assured.

Hearts’ program into Africa gang reportedly includes signing quality players across the continent. In light, the Ghana Premier League reigning champions are closing in on a deal for Cameroonian International Yassin Ouatching.

Yassin Ouatching left Indian outfit Mohammedan FC in August 2021 and has since become a free agent. The 23-year old has huge experience in international football scoring some 9 goals/3 assists together in 25 games of Indian and Bangladesh league.

A deal with the Phobians is in the pipeline at the end of the season. Hearts are further boosted after ES Tunis stopping chase on forward Afriyie Barnieh.

The Tunisian powerhouse were reportedly preparing a bid for Barnieh in the entering of group stage of the Caf Champions League.
