Kwasi Donsu: Medeama SC star wants to win the Ghana Premier League title but faces Kotoko and Hearts in the race

Hearts of Oak lifted the Ghana Premier League title last two seasons while Asante Kotoko emerged winners last season, and heading into this term, Kwasi Donsu has set his eyes on winning the top flight title for Medeama Sporting Club.

Medeama have began the season on a brighter note after clinching a slim victory in Ghana Premier League opener against Legon Cities at Accra. They will host Tamale City in next game on Sunday and a win will only mean the Tarkwa based side are on track for the title this season.

Medeama have won the FA Cup but have missed out on the Ghana Premier League title quite a couple of seasons.

Donsu hopes that Medeama will be fortunate this season and be crowned champions for the first time, after coming close in previous seasons.

“As a captain, I want to lift the Ghana Premier League trophy with Medeama for the first time. Since I joined Medeama, I have been able to win the FA Cup title and finished second in the league but winning the ultimate has been difficult,” he told Sunyani-based Union FM.

“This season, my main target is to lead the club to win its first league title and looking at the squad depth and the technical team, I believe we can achieve it.”

Medeama will be competing with traditional title favourites Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak while Bechem United have emerged a strong force over the last two seasons. Kotoko have not played any game in the league due to their Caf Champions League campaign that began last Monday with a 1-0 away win against RC Kadiogo in Benin.

Thanks to younsgter Isaac Oppong who produced individual brilliance to salvage Kotoko from scary goalless draw ahead of the return leg.

Hearts of Oak meanwhile lost in their open fixture against Aduana Stars at Dormaa. Bright Adjei’s second half strike was great separator after 90′ minutes at the Nana Agyemang Badu Stadium.

Kotoko and Hearts’ inaccuracies hand Medeama a bit advantage in earl start of the season. Donsu himself should be a game changer if Medeama is to win the ultimate the term. He was linked with a move to Asante this season but the deal never materialized.
