Ibrahim Tanko named new sporting director at Legon Cities

Ghana Premier League newcomers Accra Lions have finally unveiled former Black Stars and Cameroon assistant coach, Ibrahim Tanko as their new Sporting Director.

The Lions have had a shaky first round in their first ever taste of topflight football in the country and will look to right all wrongs and strengthen their team before the commencement of the second round.

The former Borussia Dortmund star is expected to mainly aid in shaping the first team and also control the club’s subsequent recruitment. Also he will contribute to the development of the club’s academy.
They started the season with Germain gaffer Rainer Kraft but he had to leave by mutual consent after week six and was replaced by English trainer, Francis James Nicholas.
Accra Lions after a vital win against Medeama didn’t end the first phase well after being thumped on by league leaders Asante Kotoko by 3-1 over the weekend at the Baba Yara Stadium.
After the first round, they recorded five wins, four draws and eight defeats leaving them 14th on the league table with 19 points.
Speaking after his appointment, Ibrahim Tanko has expressed his excitement for this prestigious role and has pledged to contribute immensely to the growth of the club. He said;

“I am extremely proud and happy to be taking the role of the Sporting Director of Accra Lions Football Club on this exciting project. I would like to thank the club, the leadership, management, players and supporters for the warm welcome and for placing their faith in me.”

“I want to assure them together with my colleagues, we will do our outermost best to consolidate the solid and continuous growth at the club.” He concluded.
