Asamoah Gyan makes a shocking comparison statement about former Asante Kotoko forward Kwadwo Poku Mahalla

Former Black Stars forward Asamoah Gyan has made a shocking comparison between himself and former Ghana Premier League top striker Kwadwo Opouk who featured for Asante Kotoko for most of his career in the Ghanaian top flight.

The legendary striker has revealed that the former Asante Kotoko centre-forward was talented than him but he couldn’t reach his potential due to injuries.

Ghana’s all-time top-scorer Asamoah Gyan says he feels sad that his former teammate at the Black Stars, Kwadwo Poku didn’t live up to expectations in his football career.

Poku affectionately known as ‘Mahala’ was one of the Ghanaian strikers with enormous qualities in the early 2000s.

Asamoah Gyan who will be launching his debut book dubbed ‘LeGyandary’ on April 30 in an interview with Accra based radio station, Angel FM made those revelations about the retired Ghanaian footballer.

“Kwadwo Poku was hugely talented. I think he didn’t live up to his potential,” Gyan told Saddick Adams on Angel FM

“I can’t blame him, he had some bad injuries. For me what, he had the talent to reach higher”

Poku’s bright career was hampered by injuries but he was able to make a move to Europe where he featured for Danish clubs such as FC Midtjylland, Ikast FC, Skive, Tjørring IF and Ringkøbing IF.

Poku, who announced his retirement from football in 2015, capped only nine times for the senior national team of Ghana with two goals to his credit.

He was part of the Ghanaian 2004 Olympic football team which exited in the first round, having finished in third place in group B.
