Asamoah Gyan has praised Asante Kotoko wonder kid Matthew Cudjoe after the play-maker’s star performance against Hearts and promises to be playing for Kotoko very soon

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan was at the Accra Sports Stadium when the club that he supports Asante Kotoko beat Hearts of Oak 2-1 to put full hand on the game’s bragging rights.

The former Sunderland forward has now praised Kotoko dribbling magician Matthew Cudoje after when the youngster won the penalty that wrapped Kotoko’s victory last Sunday.

Cudjoe, 16-years, is a product of the Asamoah Gyan Academy during which Cudjoe was named the overall best player in the maiden edition of the Baby Jet U-16 tournament in 2018.

After the game, Gyan went straight into Kotoko dressing room to congratulate his client as cameras capture the two in the dressing room.

In an interview with Ghana Radio Station Angle FM in Kumasi, Gyan explained what he told Matthew Cudjoe in the dressing room.

“Matthew Cudjoe is my son. I gave him advice about how he can benefit from his strength and stature.

“You know he (Cudjoe) is too young and smallish, so I was advising him not to come into contact with his makers whenever he has the ball.

“He should try and get away from those who try to close him down when he has the ball at his feet, Gyan added.

The NorthEast striker also revealed what he told Cudjoe days before the game about the passionate support base when it comes to games between Kotoko and Hearts.

“I told him he shouldn’t fear the crowed. He shouldn’t feel the pressure and he should play a normal game. This is what I told him about three days ago. I think he won the game for Kotoko yesterday.”

Asamoah Gyan has already promised to play for Kotoko before his retirement and he reaffirmed his desire to wear the red Jersey one day.

He jokingly stated “I’ve already began my dream journey to be part of Kotoko, he said this when asked whether  offering Cudjoe to Kotoko means he has already started working for the Kumasi based club.

“Like have always say I will play for Kotoko before my retirement. My brother (Baffour Gyan) has already played for them.

“Other clubs shouldn’t be disrespected when I say I will play for Kotoko because supporting Kotoko has always been a childhood and family thing.”
