Maxwell Konadu talks up about Hearts victory, explains reasons for beating Hearts and commends Odoom’s side

Maxwell Konadu led Asante Kotoko last Sunday to incur a second defeat to Hearts of Oak in the 2019-2020 season. The first was in the Presidential Cup when Konadu’s men Kotoko came from a goal down to steal a 2-1 victory against rivals Hearts at the Baba Yara Stadium before the season proper kick started.

The latest came just yesterday when Guinean international Naby Kieta’s penalty ensured Kotoko left the capital with a 2-1 victory. Thanks to Justice Blay who put Kotoko in front 11’ minutes into the game before Joseph Esso drew the Phobians on level on the 64’ minute.

The Kotoko manager has explained the reason behind his side’s victory against Hearts and admits Hearts of Oak were solid in yesterday’s game.

“I know the team (Hearts) quite too well but I must be honest, this time around they were a very solid team,” Maxwell Konadu told reporters in his post-match interview.

“When the game is getting tough, there are so many tricks and stuffs we bring on board. If you could see in the last minutes I was signaling my goalkeeper Kwame Baah to try something else because we were leading and we needed to do something to kill the game off,” Kondau told reporters.

“But we can’t tell the public whatever we tried doing. Somebody can go intentionally to get some penalty against you or something of that sort.

“Just try something to prevent them and these are the small small tricks when the going gets tough, you have to deploy and when it works for you, you carry the day.

“It wasn’t an easy match and I must say Hearts have a good team but my team is also picking up and we have to congratulate the team.”

Konadu has a very rich record against the Accra based side. He remains unbeaten against Hearts of Oak in any of his teams managed from Wa All Stars (now Legon Cities FC) to Asante Kotoko.
