GFA wish Asante Kotoko well ahead of Kotoko’s clash against San Pedro in Abidjan
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has today wished Asante Kotoko to do well against Ivorian side San Pedro in their tricky second leg tie in the CAF Confederation Cup play-off
The Kumasi based side currently lead their opponent 1-0 from the first leg in Kumasi a week ago. Kotoko flew to Abidjan today Friday and hope to claim a convincing score line in which if achieved, would perhaps, send them through to the group stages of the 2019-2020 Confederation Cup.
The Ghana Football Association as part of their usual routine of wishing Ghanaian clubs who represent Ghana in CAF inter club war fronts over the years have sent their words of motivation and encouragement to the Ghanaian champions.
The newly elect Executive Council of the Football Association led by the president of the GFA Kurt ES Okraku addressed a letter to Kotoko through club’s CEO George Amoako on Friday.
The letter urged Kotoko to lift the flag of Ghana high in Ivory Coast by making it to the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The letter of the Football Association reads, “As you emplane for Abidjan to engage A.S. San Pedro Football Club in the return leg fixture of the 2019/20 CAF Confederation Cup playoff match, the President and the entire Executive Council send their dry best wishes to the team”.
“The Ghana Football Association and the entire football fraternity are solidly behind you as the only Ghanaian club flying high the flag of Ghana on the continent”, the letter stated.
“We wish you good luck as you journey to the battlefield. We are without a doubt that you will qualify and move to the next stage of the competition.”
The letter by the GFA would undoubtedly add some sort of bit to Kotoko match readiness as they take on San Pedro at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium this Sunday.
But in recent years, the Kotoko is typically known to be poor performers in away game of CAF inter club competitions.
It has been 15 years down the line when the Ghanaian champions last progressed to the next stage of CAF club tournaments in away soil when they beat Moroccan Wydad Athletic Club 2-0 in the 2004 Confederation Cup playoff in Kumasi before drawing against WAC 1-1 in Morocco.
