Asante Kotoko thrash RTU 4-0 as Mukwala nets brace, Matheus Medeiros de Souza scores fashionable debut goal

Asante Kotoko thrashed Real Tamale United 4-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Sunday late kickoff announcing a new beginning to fight to defend their Ghana Premier League title.

Kotoko’s title defense had been questioned in recent times following their poor performances in the Ghana Premier League in a couple of games especially since defeat to Hearts of Oak and their continual technical problems has never given hopes.

But a show against RTU on Sunday could mean a new beginning for their title defense ambitions after outplaying and scoring 4 sensational goals against 10-men Real Tamale United at Baba Yara Stadium.

The visitors had looked compact at the start of the game making things difficult for the hosts but in simply putting, consistency paid off for Kotoko.

kotoko broke the deadlock midway the first half after Augustine Agyapong delivered a calculated free kick from behind the box into the left roof of the next as RTU shot-stopper failed to prevent the ball from entering the next.

Kotoko organized their passes and took total control in a pure Tiki-taka fashion and scored three further team goals with Mukwala scoring the 2nd and 3rd before Brazilian attacker Matheus Medeiros de Souza netted his debut goal.

Mukwala’s first goal tonight was his first since coming from Uganda national team duty in the AFCON Qualifiers scoring from the spot before the forward beat RTU last defender and planted the ball beyond the goal-keeper for his second of the night.

Matheus Medeiros de Souza had proved to be herculean task for the visitors’ defense and there were clear signs the Brazilian would score.

The Brazilian was involved in the trio movement with Georges Mfegue feeding the Brazilian behind the box who exchange one-time with Enoch Morrison. Morison played Mfegue through at the left edge as the Cameroonian International passed across for Matheus Medeiros to tap in for Kotoko’s fourth goal. In deed it is one of the most beautiful goals scored in the Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Stadium over seasons now.

A team goal finished off in a calculated team movement. Kotoko move to 5th position with 38 points and will take on King Faisal midweek.
