“Mamelodi Sundowns are work in progress”- Rulani Mokwena

Rulani Mokwena who boss at Mamelodi Sundowns has provided updates on current Brazilians form, admitting his side are a work in progress but are eager to get the results under their belt.

The Brazilians enjoyed a good campaign last season with much emphasis on the Premier Soccer League after clinching the South African top flight league title from Kaizer Chiefs in last round of matches.

This season remains unclear what will happen for Sundowns especially given the departure of master tactician Pitso Mosimane to Al Ahly.

However, the Brazilian’s start to the 2020/2021 season gives a clue of what could happen in Mamelodi Sundowns if things keep on as it is with talks of difficult season much anticipated for Mokwena’s side.

In light of that, Sundowns have won just one out of their opening three games played in 2020/21 season, coming in the form of a big 3-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in Match-Day 1 of DSTV Premiership.

Downs drew goalless away with TTM thereafter and the Brazilians will take on Cape Town City in their next league game on Wednesday.

Whiles Sundowns prepare to face Cape Town, boss Mokwena has highlighted his side’s form.

“There was a lot of improvement against TTM but the only thing we needed to do was convert the chances,” Mokwena told the media.

“But we are still a work in progress and we are still trying to orientate particularly a lot of the new players into the squad and assist them to adapt to the Sundowns environment and way of doing things.

“Of course, we need results and we are working for that but at the same time it is a tricky one because we’ve still also got to have the Mamelodi Sundowns way of playing which is very important.

“But more important than anything else is to make sure we win games and we move in the right direction with confidence.

“But every game gives these new players and everybody in the team an opportunity to fight for a place in the team and that’s the same going into (the match against) Cape Town City.”
