Al Ahly bounce back to winning ways after beaten Al Hilal in match day two of CAF Champions League

Egyptian power house Al Ahly began their 25 year spell at the newly leased Al Salam Stadium as their home ground with somehow emphatic 2-1 win over Sudanese Al Hilal on Friday night.

Al Ahly fell in their opening group stage game in the Champions League against Etoile Sportive de Sahel but kept prior-match stubborn Al Hilal at bay in front of parked Al Salam Stadium.

Two first half strikes from Husseini El Shahat and the face of Egpyt’s U-23 AFCON triumph Ramadan Sobhi were good enough to hand Ahly a deserving 2-0 lead for most minutes of the game until El Tahir pull one back for the visitors in stoppage time.

El Shahat run through Hilal’s defense after receiving a pass from Mohamed Magdy, Ahly’s no.14 slot in one-time to put Ahly ahead 15’ minutes into the game.

Ramadan Sobhi converted a 37’ minute penalty to double Ahly’s lead after forward Junior Ajayi had been fouled in Hilal’s six yard box.

Ahly increased attacks to get their third goal of the night but Hilal keeper Jamal Salim Magoola had to stand in to prevent the home side any additional goal. Al Ahly only saw the opposite site of scoring, conceding a late goal after Athar El Tahir produced a stoppage time (90+8) rebound to reduce Ahly’s two goal lead to one.

Al Ahly sit third in Group B, however, Tahir’s consolation for Al Hilal who at 2-0 were sitting third, moved the Sudanese to second place on the log.
