Habib Mohammed eyeing continental glory to build legendary legacy at Asante Kotoko

Habib Mohammed has set his sight on leaving a legendary status at Asante Kotoko but that wouldn’t come easy for the defender if collective effort isn’t prioritize.

Habib was transferred from Ash Gold to Asante Kotoko last two seasons and already has one silverware with his current club after the Porcupine Warriors won the Normalization Committee Special Competition in 2019.

And winning only the NC competition is not enough for Habib to be recognized as a club legend and to leave a reputable legacy at Kumasi.

Flouring in CAF Inter Club competitions by way of winning the Champions League or the Confederation Cup is one important medium to become the club’s legend.

Habib, central defender, is very much aware of that and aims of becoming a Kotoko legend by winning the CAF Champions League or the Confederation Cup before he leaves Kotoko.

“I want to make history at the club. I want to become a legend here. I want to win a major continental trophy; the Champions League and or the Confederation Cup, with Kotoko,” Habib Mohammed told Kotoko Express.

“I want my name to be written in gold in the history of the club and the hearts of the fans before I leave here. My heart would not rest if I leave here without achieving this.”

Kotoko are two times champions of the CAF Champions League in 1970 and 1983 against TP Mazembe and Al Ahy respectively but have struggled to lay hands on the title in recent years.

The Ghanaian giants have not been lucky in five finals of the Champions League, losing the title in 1967 against TP Mazembe, 1971 against Canon Yaounde, 1973 against AS Vita Club, 1982 against Al Ahly and 1993 against  Zamalek,

Kotoko also came close but lost the 2002 African Cup Winner’s Cup and 2004 CAF Confederation Cup against Wydad Athletic Club and Hearst of Oak respectively.

Since 2004, the closest the Ghanaian giants have come in lifting any CAF Inter Club competition is to reach the group stages of the 2018-2019 Confederation Cup.
